The practice of Ferrer Hayim (Pty) Limited was established in March 1995 after the partnership of Schloss Ferrer Associates was terminated, having been in existence for over 10 years.

In addition to carrying out normal quantity surveying duties, the practice offers services in the fields of cost control, development and financial consulting.

Ferrer Hayim is a commercial property consultancy offering integrated property consulting services to the commercial, retail and industrial sectors. Our services are based on the latest, most innovative marketing and analysis techniques, coupled with extensive market knowledge, research and data. The firm has extensive knowledge of the local property market, and offers expertise in the field of property valuations.

Ferrer Hayim is a member of the Land and Housing Development Support Group, which is a consortium of professionals who are involved in research, training and capacity building, and technical and business consulting to social housing and development agencies and institutions, residential and commercial property companies, local, provincial and national government.

The company was recently appointed to conduct an investigation into an Institutional Stabilisation Grant for Housing Institutions. This was requested by the National Housing Department, where we consulted on numerous occasions. We have also been very involved in the financial feasibility of various Social Housing Projects.

Together with the Land and Housing Development Support Group, Ferrer Hayim was appointed as Business Management Experts to develop a practical business and recovery plan for one of the Housing Corporations. Ferrer Hayim was recently appointed by the South African Government and the European Union on behalf of the Support Programme for Social Housing to provide:

  1. effective operational management for Social Housing Institutions in South Africa including the writing of policy and best practice manuals, and the implementation of systems and procedures for operational management
  2. effective property development for Social Housing Institutions in South Africa including the writing of policy and best practice manuals, and the implementation of systems and procedures. One of the systems developed for SPSH, included a financial model to assess financial feasibility of social housing projects
  3. the development of an information communication technology (ICT) strategy for the Social Housing sector in South Africa

The company also acts as a finance expert to the National Housing Finance Corporation for capacity building for the Job Summit Social Housing Institutions.

Ferrer Hayim currently consults to various listed property companies on the valuation of their retail portfolio of properties, together with potential acquisition opportunities. A model was developed by the company to produce discounted cashflows and portfolio Internal Rates of Return.

The company has developed a financial model for Quantity Surveying firms, for preparation of financial feasibilities of projects worldwide. A financial model for a leading company in the provision of retirement accommodation, geared around the sale of life rights, has also been developed.

The firm has been involved in construction projects in Southern Africa ranging in value from under one million to exceeding two hundred million Rand.

Ferrer Hayim is also a specialist IT company. The company develops and markets software for the property and construction industries. Ferrer Hayim has been in the field of specialised software development for sixteen years, and has a national user base of over 1600.
